We Went to a DJ Drama Listening Party

We went to a DJ Drama listening party, enjoyed some delicious beef patties, and talked to him about what he does for a living.

Industry listening parties are never not weird. Last week, we went to check out the DJ Drama listening party for his new album Quality Street Music, which had been officially been released a few days before the party actually happened. Usually with a listening party, you’re listening to an album that hasn’t come out yet, while the artist in attendance dancing around and staring at you. This was more like going to the Space Jam soundtrack listening party (even though they probably didn’t have a listening party for that) a few days after it came out, and instead of Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan hanging around, the guy who executive produced the album was there introducing each song. For an album that features almost every rapper in existence, no rappers were in attendance. All that aside, DJ Drama let us in on some insider tidbits about the album, like how 2 Chainz’s verse on “My Moment” was inspired by the passing of his father, and that Fabolous is really really picky about what beats he raps over. Despite having to feel like you have to listen to each song closely when you're at an event like that, the album turned out really well, and there are definitely some huge bangers on it. Above, you can check out a video of Drama talking to us about his new album and what exactly he does for a living. Below, you can check out some pics we snapped of the listening party. The free beef patties and beers really helped to minimize the occasional awkwardness.
