New York - Furry/Fan Fic crossover

If you've ever found yourself wondering who's the bigger set of saddies, furries (at least some of them get laid) or fan fiction enthusiasts (even shitty writing counts for getting something done), you might as well stop--them shits done converged a while back. Where its content used to be pretty strictly grounded in the classics of Sci-Fi and a smattering of more recent TV shows, comics, and movies, the world of fan fic has been expanding outward by leaps and bounds ever since we first covered it and now provides spin-off and follow-up offerings for pretty much any source you can think of, from RENT to Fall Out Boy videos to anthropomorphic animal characters people have invented for themselves as a way of coping with deep-seated social and sexual issues. How do the latter count as fan fic versus, say, regular fic you ask? Well, a) within the "anthro" fandom community, other folks will borrow their friends' "fursonas" and backstories and side-characters to incorporate into their own tales (you realize how hard it was to resist that pun?) which makes it something of a more intimate, mutual fanship, and b) just read it--this is fan fic.

What may hold even more promise than the lit scene is the burgeoning community of furry fanartists that's sprung up alongside it. Take a glance at the anthro section at deviantart.com for a quick overview, or Jesus, just google fucking "anthro fanart." Some folks might be a little creeped out (especially when this girl's betesticled weasel-guy shows up on the first Google image page for "weasel"), but as far as we're concerned, we've just found the designs for our next 30 t-shirts.
