LONDON - ANNIE GIANT DRAG, OFFICIALLY MUSIC'S HOTTEST GIRL

Weird indie fact of the day? That Giant Drag's Annie Hardy sits atop 'NME's sexiest women list - as voted for by website users. She's a strange anomaly amongst a forest of glassy eyed pop moppets (Sugababes’ Heidi, Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole). Plus, no-one's seen her since 2006.

Hardy's 'sexy' credentials seem to rankle alongside the other nominees' hot pant credibility. Onstage banter that's one part 'Daria' two parts Bea Arthur, and a whimsical demeanor that suggests a fantasist who'll chat about their fan-girl 'relationship' with Chris Isaak rather than some porny magazine discussion about imaginary sex. So how come she's made the top of the list? A batch of nose-to-keyboard street team peeps pressing 'vote' quite a lot? The 'Juno' effect (otherwise known as the Wes Anderson effect mark 2? This 'chronic muscle pain' she's been having that's got her back in the news?

Anyone who's read her recent blogs about wanting to soundtrack the posho teen angst of 'Gossip Girl' ("Hey Alex Patsavas, [I assume this is GG's music dude] won't you please be my personal Oprah and do what you did with The Virgins-isode where you used their entire (self-released) EP in the episode.") shows she can be charming, even when the subject matter is fucking desperate. So maybe she wrote 'NME' readers a letter?

Not that she’s not hot, she is. Call it the mysterious Kim Deal quality if you like; it's that rush of someone’s charisma that makes you instantly rush to the front of the venue to rubber neck them close up. I guess it’s cool that her indefinable qualities have been rightfully been noticed before Rihanna’s weirdly hot self. I want you to know I voted for you Annie. Can I have your number please?
