Nike Turned One Piece’s Devil Fruits Into Sneakers—Here’s How to Cop a Pair

Life’s burning quesiton: What if the Gomu Gomu no Mi had a colorway?

Nike has given One Piece fans a reason to start setting early alarms.

The brand’s new collaboration with Eiichiro Oda’s world-conquering pirate manga turns three of the story’s most iconic Devil Fruits into full sneaker silhouettes, and the rollout is sprawling with global pop-ups, region-locked exclusives, and a marquee worldwide release that’s still weeks away.

Three Devil Fruits, Three Completely Different Shoes

Each colorway of the Air Max Plus gets a full upper retool based on a specific fruit from the manga.

The Gomu Gomu no Mi, Luffy’s rubber power, comes in a stretchy-looking purple and neon green and gets the widest release, landing via SNKRS Pre-Order in the US, Japan, and parts of Europe, with standard launches in China, Mexico, and Australia and Exclusive Access in Korea.

The Mera Mera no Mi, tied to Portgas D. Ace’s fire abilities, arrives in a molten orange-to-red gradient and is the most exclusive of the three, limited to select retailers across Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Mexico, with Australian shoppers waiting until mid-October.

Finally, the Ope Ope no Mi, Trafalgar Law’s fruit, shows up in a red-and-green pair and stays limited to select stores in the US and Europe.

When and Where to Actually Cop Them

The release calendar reads like a world tour. Deservedly so, though, given the love surrounding One Piece

Pop-up experiences kick off September 4 through 6 in Tokyo, followed by a second wave hitting Hong Kong, Jakarta, Mexico City, and Seoul on September 12, then Amsterdam, Dallas, London, Madrid, and San Diego on September 19.

The global SNKRS drop lands September 25, with Sydney getting its own retail window October 16 through 18. Nike is rounding out the collection with jerseys, T-shirts stamped with Luffy’s Jolly Roger, caps pulled from the archive, and a vest inspired by the fact that eating a Devil Fruit makes you unable to swim, a detail only a manga-literate design team would bother even including.

Nike’s Nick Remlinger, GM of Energy Gaming, says the idea started with the superhuman feeling of a Devil Fruit awakening a hidden power, which the brand compared to the feeling of lacing up a pair of Nikes, then worked backward from there to reimagine the Air Max Plus. Nothing is purchasable yet, but turning on SNKRS notifications now is the move if you don’t want to be the one explaining to your crew why you missed the drop.

Other Air Max Plus You CAN Snag Now

Obviously, we’re all waiting (impatiently) for September 25. If you need something to tide you over, though, these other SNKRS options are available now:
