Capturing the Hidden Side of Jakarta

Peter Chev and Gnoberio haunt the streets with the city's night creeps.

When it comes to sprawling urban metropolises, Jakarta is in a class of its own. Other cities, places like New York, Tokyo, and Berlin, have actual public transit. We, on the other hand, spend a lot of time on the road. To live in Jakarta is to live in a never-ending traffic jam.

But at night it's an entirely different story. Photographers Peter Chev and Gnoberio spend their nights following graffiti artists, skaters, punks, and other nocturnal animals who call this city home. Their photos show Jakarta in all its glory, capturing the capital's raw grittiness with a casual nonchalance that's hard to fake.
