A Thief Broke Into a House in Karnataka but Got Caught Taking a Nap on the Couch

We’ve all faced that post-lunch battle with exhaustion, when the most difficult task at hand is to hold back our increasingly heavy eyelids from giving in to the blissful freedom of a nap. But while most of us have to make do with ten seconds of shut-eye while on the clock, a Karnataka man completely messed up his career by falling asleep on the job. That’s because the man in question was a thief who passed out after he broke into someone else’s house.

The thief named Anil Sahani went out on Tuesday, February 25, looking for a house to rob in the Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka. He finally settled on a house that belonged to a man named Sudharshan and broke in by removing the tiles of his roof. His plan to pocket valuable items was going smoothly. But then, Sahani got kinda tired and decided that a quick nap was due. So instead of stealing stuff from the house he broke into, Sahani grabbed a bunch of keys lying by the TV and then promptly passed out on the couch, where he remained until he was rudely awakened by the owner of the house with a stick. "It appears he was too inebriated and fell asleep,” a senior police official told The News Minute. “We are investigating whether he is linked to other cases of theft reported in the area.”

This whole situation may sound strange, but getting drunk on the job appears to be a pattern in thieving circles. Just a few days ago, yet another notorious thief in Kerala broke in and ransacked a house, only to realise it belonged to an army man. He was not only smart enough to raid the army man’s fancy liquor cabinet, but after getting shitfaced, he also scribbled an apology. Not on a piece of paper like any average person would. Instead he wrote on a wall of the house, "I flouted the seventh commandment (Thou shalt not steal) of the Bible. I did not know it was the house of a soldier. I realised it at the last minute when I spotted the Army cap. Officer, please forgive me. If I had known it was the house of a soldier, I would not have broken in,." But he then proceeded to steal everything anyway.
