This week, It's Always Sunny decided to make one of the most universally reviled things in all of television sitcom history—a clip show. The concept of a clip show, while dumb and bad since the beginning, was perhaps more understandable in those pre-internet days of yore, before half of YouTube was filled with fan-made supercuts or whatever. But to do it now, in 2018? That's basically inexcusable.Only this was no ordinary clip show. It was something far weirder and greater and more brilliant, with the clips somehow folding in on themselves, Inception-style, like some kind of It's Always Sunny version of Too Many Cooks. It may have started off with a montage of Dee getting hurt, but quickly, things took a sharp, absurdist turn. Suddenly, Frank had hair and Charlie was having kids with the Waitress and babbling in Chinese and whatever.And then there was the Seinfeld scene.At one point in the clip show, the gang finds themselves somehow transported into what is arguably Seinfeld's greatest episode, "The Contest." Frank is George, Dee is Elaine, Mac and Dennis are both Jerry, and Charlie, of course, is Kramer. For one perfect minute, It's Always Sunny did a shot-for-shot recreation of the famous scene where Kramer becomes the first to fold in their anti-masturbation pact, and it was glorious.Thankfully, some noble Reddit user recorded the thing and decided to pair it up, side-by-side, with the original Seinfeld scene, so you can see how well the Gang replicated it—from the line delivery, to Elaine's outfit, to the single oven mitt hanging on Jerry's fridge. Behold:This new season of It's Always Sunny may not be as consistently solid as the show's been in the past, but by God, they've still got it. Long live It's Always Sunny.
