Body High Tour Diary Round 2

Dumplings, kickflips, and corndog poutine, plus DJ Pierre, as Samo Sound Boy and Jerome LOL take on Canada.

Samo Sound Boy and Jerome LOL of tastemaking L.A. house label Body High are out on the road right now DJing with some of the classic house and techno DJs that have inspired them: Juan Atkins, Anthony "Shake" Shakir, and DJ Pierre. They've sent us some letters from the road, and you can download a free compilation here to get yourself in the mood.

Week two of our Body High tour started off in Brooklyn at 285 Kent. This venue is basically a warehouse, so we felt right at home. Alongside acid house godfather DJ Pierre, our special guest for the this second leg of the tour, we had our friend Jim-E Stack playing with us. Jim-E started the night off with a really great set highlighting some of the material from his upcoming album. (Look out for that because it's amazing). A bunch of NY friends were in the building and the vibe was great. We did our thing and then DJ Pierre took over until close. Alongside being a legend and a pioneer, Pierre is one of the friendliest guys ever. It was great to see him again and we knew the rest of the weekend would be dope.

The next day we got pizza with Jim-E at Best Pizza in Brooklyn and then headed to LGA (Laguardia Airport, y'all). It was sad to leave Jim-E and we all wished he was spending the rest of the weekend with us, but alas our journey continued. Traffic was worse than it is in Los Angeles, so we ended up cutting it pretty close with our flight to Montreal, but with about 20 minutes before takeoff we pulled it off and were headed to Canada. Once on the ground, we waited the classic two hours at customs and then finally made it out and to the hotel. There was a big hockey game on so about 50 dudes were in the lobby bar going ham. We made our way through them and went to our rooms to chill.

The club afterwards was crazy. It's a new spot called Apt 200 and it's set up to look like your coolest friend's really chill apartment. There are tons of arcade games, couches, a bed, and the the whole vibe is just unique.  Montreal is always great for nightlife and the place was packed the whole night. We linked up with our friend Jason after and went to get poutine at a spot called Chez Claudette—it had us seeing helicopters it was so good.

The next day we had brunch with local legend Tommy Kruise. We saw a protest against Monsanto while we enjoyed our avocados and eggs. Tommy aka The People's Champion threw down a few kickflips on our walk back to the hotel, and then we were on our way to Toronto.

We got to Toronto and headed to The Pantages, a really nice hotel with insanely comfortable beds. The cozy boys vibe was strong. Also it was great to find out Yelp works in Canada, and we were guided to the sacred ramen spot Santouka, where we sat at the bar and watched the chefs do their thing. Post-epic ramen meal, we headed to Wrongbar, played a dope show and had a very nice time with the chill Torontonians.

After exercising our late checkout option, we headed to Kensington Market and then Chinatown. We enjoyed a huge feast at Mother's Dumplings, a perfect rainy day spot. Walking back to hotel, the rain picked up a little bit—being the Angelenos we are, of course we had no umbrella. We got so soaked it looked like we had fallen into a pool with all our clothes on. After Sam almost lost his passport inside the airport, we somehow got bumped up to business class, which was great way to end a day that was mostly spent walking around soaking wet.

Much love to DJ Pierre and we'll see you all this weekend in SF, San Diego, and LA!
