Oliver Korittke is a 47-year-old German actor and shoe enthusiast, enough so that he goes by “The President of Sneakers.” Sneakers und Katzen (Sneakers and Cats) is a video mashup of purring white kittens and fresh new kicks, campy special effects, and glittery butterfly wings that he made to promote his President of Sneakers webstore.
Produced by and starring Korittike (obviously), the virally tailor-made video combines three insatiable internet thirsts at once—cats, colored lights, and cuteness—into a little over two beautiful minutes. Framed within elaborate sets, Korittke basks in the glow of Adidas, furry friends, and dice discoballs, less like an elected official than the sovereign of a cuddly kingdom of his own. Kitties crawl out of Pumas and into the President’s waiting arms, and a hedgehog unfurls with a yawn. As the video’s sappy soundtrack swells, Korittke reminds us with a winning grin—and bits from his mocumentary-style making-of—that coherence is no prerequisite for pure enjoyment.
Thank you, Mr. President. Really makes you want sneakers.
