Kiwi Indycar Legend Scott Dixon Held Up at Gunpoint in Taco Bell Drive-Through

Indycar legends Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti were held up at gunpoint in a Taco Bell drive-through in Indianapolis over the weekend, ESPN has reported.

Franchitti and Dixon - arguably the greatest New Zealand race car driver of his generation - were also accompanied by the Kiwi's wife, Emma Davies-Dixon when the incident occurred at 9.40pm on Sunday at a fast-food restaurant located less than a mile (1.6km) from the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Dixon had just set the fastest qualifying time in 21 years for this weekend's upcoming Indy 500.

ESPN reported that two males, aged 14 and 15, have been arrest on robbery charges - having taken credit cards from the trio as well as Davies-Dixon's wallet and ID.

Though neither Dixon or Franchitti spoke to media yesterday, fellow Indycar driver Tony Kanaan said that the group were picking up takeaways for a group of drivers.

"While they were ordering with their windows down two guys approached at gun point," Kanaan said, according to the New Zealand Herald.

"They held a gun at Dixon's head and asked him for his wallet and his phone. You don't expect that to happen, especially here."

Dixon's team - Chip Ganassi Racing - has confirmed that the trio in good spirits after the incident. The Kiwi - who last won the Indy 500 in 2008 - will still start on pole for this weekend's Indycar glamour event.

Franchitti - who retired from motor racing after a life-threatening car crash in Houston in 2013 - won the Indy 500 in 2007, 2010 and 2012.
