What to Watch During Melbourne's Arctic Blast

This weekend is going to be so cold you won't want to get out of bed to pee. Blow off your family and friends to stay in binge watching VICE content.

Last year New York entered a polar vortex when the coldest weather in 20 years straight up assaulted the United States. Temperatures plummeted and citizens were trapped in their homes, public transport shut down, and panicked hordes stripped stores of every can of food.

Roughly six months on, Melbourne is apparently having its own arctic blast. Sure, ours looks like it will only last the weekend and bring rain and hail rather than cataclysmic snow storms, but hey, we're not known as a lame, nanny-state version of New York for nothing.

The point is that this weekend could get unpleasant. So if you're going to spend the next few days shivering in bed trying to convince your cat to sleep on your face to bring warmth or at least the sweet release of death, you may as well have some good stuff to watch. Consider this a care package from us to you.

Watch This Japanese YouTube Superstar Feast on Salamanders and Hot Peppers

First up, watch Japanese YouTube celebrity Megwin eat a pile of Trinidad moruga scorpions—the hottest chillies in the world—to make sure that you never want to feel any heat again. He also tucks into fermented fish and salamanders. So no matter how shit this weekend is, at least you're not sharing a bathroom with this dude.

The Wolfpack - 'Mirror Heart'

The Wolfpack is a much anticipated documentary following the lives of the Angulo brothers who spent their childhood locked in a New York apartment. Their whole world was informed by movies, which sounds awesome and terrifying all at the same time.

Mirror Heart is a dreamy short film the brothers made with VICE. Check it out before seeing the full documentary at the upcoming Melbourne International Film Festival.

The New Wave of Ultra-Violent Ugandan DIY Action Cinema

Now you're all jacked up on the magic of movies, get acquainted with Ugandan independent film. Don't worry, this isn't black and white footage of some dude trying to light a cigarette in the rain. Ugandan indie likes action, violence, and a whole lot of kung fu moves.

In Search of Hallucinogenic Toads

Okay, so being inside is super fucking boring. Hopefully you have someone you love keeping you company, or at least something to ingest so you think you have someone you love keeping you company. If not, watch this video about licking toads and get some ideas.

Also, this is a joke. If you go out and lick some skanky inner-city lizard and get sick it is all on you.

Big Cats of the Gulf

As previously established with our A-grade opening cat joke, felines are pretty good company when you're stuck inside. Following that logic to the extreme, spend 28 minutes with the illegal, deadly pets of Kuwait's very rich and very bored.
