Double Denim Does it Again: Here's Bayou's "Thugs"

Kinda like Metronomy on an R&B tip. Kinda.

Not to be mistaken with a slow moving river, this Bayou is actually a London-based music maker whose squelchy synth sonics and feather-light falsetto—as demonstrated on "Thugs" (below)—reminds us of early Metronomy. It's a slight swerve from the darker, dubbier tunes "Airlock" (which shares a kinship with Jaymes Young) and the intimate R&B-pop of "Varsity Jacket." For a while the only visual of Bayou—known to his fam as Hari Ashurst—was a shot of the back of his head, but look! Here he is: he has a face too. If the name sounds familiar perhaps it's because Ashurst once made tunes as Prizes, and he's also one half of tastemaker label Double Denim, who've released choice 7"s by Pandr Eyez, Brolin, and Amateur Best. We like.
