Enter the Ashram With the En Kernaghan Band's Spiritual Rock N Roll

Smell the incense.

Ethan Kernaghan is a spirited and spiritual individual who has long held an interest in metaphysics, comparative theology and epistemology. The former Hare Krishna devotee has explored some of these ideas through his art and music as a solo musician in the En Kernaghan Band and through his DIY label Kelang. The Brisbane based musician now returns with a new two song 7" on Brooklyn label Ever/Never.

A follow up to his 2014 self-titled album that included idiosyncratic takes on covers of The Cramps and Pussy Galore, the two new tracks sound cleaner and sharper but are still presented in a fog of Nag Champa.

"Divine Body Care" works more as a mantra and meditation with bells, sitar-like guitar and lyrics about universal healing and blessings for all. Imagine a transcendentalist skinhead sitting with George Harrison and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and getting their chant on.

The B-side "Things Are Constantly Changing" digs into more Seeds-like psych rock territory with a stompy beat and lyrics that use a child's vegetable eating habits as a metaphor for change.

"Divine Body Care" is available now through Ever/Never.
