Victor Calderone Makes it MATTER+ With His New EP ‘Roll’

One of the true bosses of techno music, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Victor Calderone, is back in business with the debut release from his brand new MATTER+ imprint. Titled Roll, the EP christens the label in an unconventionally rigid, rhythmic style—a departure from Calderone's typical no-nonsense brand of darker, striking techno. The record's namesake track itself is a mesmerizing number designed to take the listener deep into hypnotic territory. Bass heavy, growling, and anchored both by phase blasts and eerie percussive stabs, it's 'heads down techno' at its most upfront.

Having garnered heavy support from the likes of Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink, Nicole Moudaber, Carlo Lio, Jon Rundell, Sian, and more, you could say that Roll is already on one. And for an artist like Victor Calderone—whose career as a DJ is built on keeping his ears out for new music and pumping those selections out night after night—one can only imagine what a treat it is for the shoe to be on the other foot.
