Eighteen year old photographer and digital artist Luisa Azevedo doesn't want to create realism, she wants to create magic. The Lisbon native's surrealist photo manipulations are known for their serene tone, crisp composition, and sleek finish. The majority of her compositions center on a single subject that's been altered using a number of different creative, illusory embellishments. The spellbinding natural images she posts to her Instagram tend to play with the surrounding environment in which each scene is set, utilizing different landscapes as props to further disguise the photographic illusions.
Azevedo taught herself how to use photoshop when she was growing up by watching tutorial videos on YouTube. By the age of 17, she was receiving commissions for work from companies like Forever 21 and IKEA Portugal. The artist says her photography and digital art practice provides a challenge that forces her to deconstruct and reimagine the reality around her on a daily basis. Azevedo currently studies Multimedia Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon (Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa). Check out more of her work below:
