The Green Child Is Inspired By a UK Anarchist’s Inscrutable 1935 Novel

Listen to the long distance music collaboration of Total Control's Mikey Young and Raven Mahon of Grass Widow.

Here we have a photo of two people sitting on a horse cart. On the left is Raven Mahon, best known for her work in San Francisco band Grass Widow. To the right is Mikey Young, guitarist for Eddy Current Suppression Ring and Total Control, and mixer and mastering genius for everyone else. Together they are The Green Child, a trans Pacific electronic music recording project.

Raven and Mikey are releasing their debut album early next year on London label Upset the Rhythm. Listen to the album’s closing track “Destroyer” below.

The two met when Total Control and Grass Widow played an Oakland show back in 2013 and since 2014 have been making music together. Taking their name from Herbert Read's 1935 utopian communist sci-fi novel, the electronic project at times sounds like a trans Pacific version of Broadcast if it was mixed with some of Mikey's solo stuff.

With artwork by James Vincieguerra and Al Monfort on guest saxophone, it's an album that we are very much looking forward to.

The Green Child’s debut album is available Jan 12 on Upset the Rhythm.
