Aaron Rose is a something of a New York legend, and, as corny as this is to say, kind of a rock star in the curatorial world. He started Alleged Gallery on the Lower East Side in 1992 at 21, in the shop front he and his friends lived at—every kid's creative wet dream, at one point or another. The gallery became something of a home base to the Harmony Korine, Chloë Sevigny-led generation of New York it kids, exhibiting work by Margaret Kilgallen, Ed Templeton, Spike Jonze, and Sofia Coppola over its 10 year lifespan.

Later, to memorialise that era and the artists that came out of it, Aaron directed the heart-wrenching (and very good) documentary Beautiful Losers. Anyway, we're singing his praises to give you reason to pay attention to what would might otherwise be a fairly pedestrian pitch: a pop-up gallery in Sydney.

La Rosa Social Club is a temporary space curated entirely by Aaron, who, as is now well established, has rare taste. The gallery-and-also-bar opens up at Carriageworks tomorrow night, with a VICE and Creators presented-party. With DJs. Who are good. We promise.

To further whet your proverbial appetite: Lola Rose Thompson's hyper-hyper oil paintings will hang in the space next to photography from Ed Templeton, plus work from Supergraphics icon Barbara Stauffacher-Solomon, Beautiful Losers' Bary McGee, Instagram favourite Natalie Krim, and Alia Penner.

If you miss out, don't worry. La Rosa Social Club is open 5 to 10:30pm from May 25th to 27th, then May 31st to June 1st as part of Semi Permanent. It's free to get in, but it might get busy. To guarantee you get in, RSVP here.
