Prepare the Night Before with a Morning After Mix From NULL

Plus we have a chat with Siberia honcho Daniel Stricker.

The teams at Young Turks and Siberia Records are cooking up something special this New Year's Eve, bringing together international and local artists for a special guest, unannounced, DJ lineup to bring in 2016 in Wollongong. Siberia rising star NULL has put together a comfortably sedate morning after mix to soothe your weary head when the time comes, plus we had a quick chat with Siberia honcho Daniel Stricker to get the lowdown on the NYE celebration – plus a taste of what's to come in 2016.

THUMP: Tell us about the relationship between Siberia and Young Turks.
Daniel Stricker, Siberia Records: I first met the YT guys when we put on a party together on a secret barge in Sydney Harbour around Laneway festival, which we had Jamie xx, Four Tet, Kirin J Callinan, Cassius Select and others play at for 250 people. It was such a special night that we decided to embark on this NYE journey together. I was working out of the XL office a bit in London so would see a lot of those guys around then too. They're great people, friends and i'm obviously a fan.

New Year's Eve is always pretty crowded on the calendar, what sets this event apart?
I think people are really excited about it – obviously as are we – as we Siberia and Young Turks like to put on events that aren't run of the mill "in a venue" type parties. If you check out Young Turk's NYE they threw in Mexico, you'll get a pretty good idea of how next level those guys can go. One of my favourite parties we put on was in the heritage listed basement carpark where they filmed Mad Max in Melbourne – I think people get that we try to make the space unique and utilise it in a way that makes it feel like another world. There's going to be some big surprises in store for this NYE. We feel pretty lucky and blessed to have people believe in our vision enough to sell it out without even announcing the lineup.

Why Wollongong?
To be honest, Sydney has become a bitch to put on events. I love Sydney. It's one of the most amazing cities in the world. But with the lock out laws, and stringent council policies on closing times, etcetera, we weren't able to make it work. I reached out to my friends in Wollongong who run Yours and Owls and they jumped at the opportunity and pulled the event together with the city council in four days – you couldn't do that in Sydney. By the way, Yours and Owls have been incredible and have made this event super special. I love that we are doing it in Wollongong. The beaches and cliffs in the North are spectacular, and the national park is mind blowing. The people are hungry. The vibe is good.

Can you give us any hint as to the lineup? Will there be Good Times?
Rainbow's a plenty…

What's in store for 2016 from Siberia?
New albums from Kirin J Callinan + NULL, a very special new project called MIND GAMERS and a lot of work coming out of Siberia Studios including the debut album from Dita Von Teese. At least three events at places you've never been to and many more exciting fun wonderful hyperbolic combinations of words.
