Rand Paul Is Filibustering the Patriot Act Right Now

"I will not let the Patriot Act, the most unpatriotic of acts, go unchallenged."

At 1:18 pm today, noted filibuster enthusiast Rand Paul started talking on the Senate floor, beginning his filibuster in protest of the proposed renewal of the Patriot Act. In the opening minutes of the filibuster, the Republican Presidential candidate said, "I will not let the Patriot Act, the most unpatriotic of acts, go unchallenged." The last time Paul pulled this kind of stunt was in 2013, when he talked for 13 straight hours about the Obama administration's drone program. It's unclear, though, how long he'll be allowed to go on for this time around.

The Patriot Act, which runs out on June 1, is facing heat from all sides—yesterday, the ACLU and the Tea Party joined forces for an anti-Patriot Act ad.
