Seinfeld Looks Back on Life Before Kramer in His Netflix Special Trailer

On Tuesday, Netflix released the first full trailer for Jerry Seinfeld's upcoming stand-up special, Jerry Before Seinfeld, Variety reports.

The special, which was shot at the club in New York where Seinfeld first launched his comedy career, focuses on the comedian's rise through the industry and revisits some of his very first jokes. In keeping with its "aging comedian muses over his career trajectory" theme, Seinfeld looks back on his childhood and his life before moving into 5A in the full-length trailer.

"Would I have been funnier if I grew up in Peoria in a whore house full of prostitutes?" Seinfeld asks in the trailer, standing outside his childhood home in Long Island and wearing an alarmingly purple Mets jacket. "Absolutely. But this is what I had to work with."

Netflix already shared some footage from the special, which intercuts Seinfeld's stand-up with home movies and shots of the yellow legal pads he used to write his jokes on, but Tuesday's trailer gives a real look at the comedian's first special since 1998's I'm Telling You for the Last Time.

Jerry Before Seinfeld is one of two Seinfeld stand-up specials coming to Netflix this year. New and old episodes of Seinfeld's webseries Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee are also headed to the streaming service as part of the deal, and there are plans for more scripted and non-scripted series to come, though don't get your hopes up for a TV adaptation of Bee Movie just yet.
