"Item, that when anye Christian bodie is in passing, that the bell be tolled, and that the curate be speciallie called for to comforte the sicke person; and after the time of his passinge, to ringe no more but one short peale; and one before the buriall, and another short peale after the buriall."

Back when the letter e was used far more often, a 'death bell' or 'passing bell' was wrung from a church at the death of a parishioner. Apparently there were different knells for men, women, and children, and sick airhorns for the real mad bastards.

Sydney band Death Bells produce that music that can be as equally morose and dark as a passing bell but there are also elements of hope and melody in their sound. They've just released "Something Above", a new track from their forthcoming debut LP Standing At The Edge Of The World that will be available later this month via Burning Rose and Funeral Party Records.

'Standing At The Edge Of The World' will be available Sep 29 via Burning Rose and Funeral Party Records.
