VICE Exclusive: Listen to Lady Bones's Angsty Boston Indie Rock

While the inspiring force behind the band's sound is obvious, the songs remain deeply introspective without being too self-serious.

There is no ending the inspirational chaos that Boston band Pile hath wrought on young bands. They've brought back a certain hardness and aggro-Americana that indie rock hasn't seen since it was called "college rock." Pile's dark, grunge hymns have inspired a wide range of younger groups—one of the best being fellow Bostononians Lady Bones.

Lady Bones started making music in 2011 when all the members were still in high school. They've taken cues from their hometown heroes and kept a similar grunge spirit alive with dark vocals, semi-ironic balls-out solos and polyrhythms, and lyrical introspection that avoids becoming too self-serious. Take a listen to their new track, "24 Hour Party Girl," from their upcoming debut album, Dying, out June 30 on Midnight Werewolf Records.
