Crate Expectations: Nick Catchdubs

Bump the tracks that have followed the Fool's Gold co-founder all the way from his college dorm room.
Like most people, DJs and producers have specific songs tied to events throughout their lives. In Crate Expectations, we extract a playlist from their memories to tell their story. This week's subject is Nick Catchdubs, co-founder of world-renowned label Fool's Gold Records, NYC DJ staple, and one of the leading voices in the endless possibilities when combining the worlds of hip-hop and dance music. Nick hits Syracuse University's Wescott Theater tonight alongside Ape Drums as part of THUMP and Verge Campus' Game Day Tour. Check out some of his most cherished anthems that have followed him from his college dorm room to the world's many dancefloors.

THUMP: What's one song that quickly takes you back to your college years?
Nick Catchdubs: The week I moved into my freshman dorm, I picked up a DJ Clue mixtape with a blend of Christina Aguilera's "Genie In A Bottle" over Nas' "Nastradamus" instrumental. It's not on YouTube but A$AP Yams (RIP) posted it on his Tumblr once. Ludacris' "Southern Hospitality" is right up there too. Proustian!

When playing a tailgate party BBQ, what are two songs that you can't go wrong mixing together?
I like looping up French Montana saying "put in work, put in work" from A$AP Ferg's "Work" remix, pretty much anything at that tempo sounds good mixed in. I'm partial to Jay-Z "Big Pimpin," especially if there's some "super seniors" in the crowd.
