R. Stevie Moore has released more than 400 recording projects since 1968. The career of this “Godfather of Home Recording” is a testament to the powers of self-promotion, artistic perseverance, and an astounding DIY work ethic that falls somewhere between impassioned dedication and insanity. He’s one of the most popular outsider musicians in American music history, having made a name for himself in the 80s with his mail-order tape club and regular appearances on WFMU. Since then Moore has remained a powerful force in independent music, and while it’s baffling that he’s never released music on a major label, that fact makes his continued labors all the more special.

The latest addition to his storied catalog is the single “Everybody Is So Ignorant,” which we are premiering for Northeast-based Seagreen Records. It is an articulate funk/punk tune anchored down by that familiar lo-fi sound that Moore helped pioneer. Give it a listen and then go back and check out all of his old releases, which are filled with gloriously weird gems.
