Steve Axford is quite a revered photographer in certain circles, but that's only a recent development. After retiring from IT, he fell in love with flora and fauna, and began photographing the specimens around his home in Booyong, northern NSW. Quickly, that turned from a hobby into something more—and it was clear Steve had a knack.Over time, Steve has drawn international acclaim for his gentle, poetic eye. His photographs even appeared in David Attenborough's Planet Earth II. Here, we got on the phone with Steve to talk about the beauty in fungi, and the difficulties of documenting something so delicate.
