Illustration Series Transforms Iconic Architecture Into Movie Posters

Federico Babina's "Archizoom" turns the Sydney Opera House and Guggenheim into drawings coming soon to a theater near you.

Coming soon to a theater near you, Frank Lloyd Wright presents The Guggenheim, a modern tale about contemporary art and cylindrical architecture! Well, not actually. But, thanks to artist and graphic designer Federico Babina, we can visualize some of the world's most iconic architecture as classic movie posters.

The illustrator, who previously designed portraits of famous architects composed in their signature styles and imagined legendary songs as buildings, has continuously impressed us with his clever manipulations of renowned cultural staples. In his latest series, Archizoom, the Italian artist magnifies specific characteristics of buildings like the Sydney Opera House, Centre Pompidou and Satellite Towers, and uses them as the inspiration for tasteful posters.

Centre Pompidou, for example, is "directed" by architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, and the graphic spotlights the sketal frame and exposed tubing that define the real building. The Brion Cemetery image, on the other hand, is distinguished by the vesica piscis viewing device—the two overlapping circles—that mark the forefront of the Italian graveyard.

Babina created 23 drawings in total, several of which are included below. No word on if these "films" will be summer blockbusters, or holiday family flicks—regardless, the designs certainly promise a visual spectacle.
