The good news? It has three bedrooms and period features. The bad news? You have to give up pooping.

For a long time, many of us have lived cloaked in the fantasy that Brunswick, the vibrant Melbourne suburb with some of the best bakeries and op-shops in the city, was still semi-affordable. We are here to shatter that illusion once and for all.

2 Saxon street Brunswick is currently on the market for $1.195 million. Oh yeah, also 2 Saxon street Brunswick does not have a kitchen or bathroom.

To be fair, that is great natural life. Photo via realestate.com

Jellis Craig Brunswick’s Elizabeth Kelly describes it as “practically a shell” before seeing the bright-side and adding, “But it provides scope for renovators, builders or developers and it’s in a great location.”

Almost two million clams will get you three bedrooms, a lounge room, back living area, a courtyard and original 1920s period features. You just need to give up the part of you that likes eating and pooping indoors.

The house was bought by current owners in 2014 for $900,000 but has been vacant for several years.

According to realestate.com, this expensive shell is actually valued slightly above the area’s median price of $1,182,500 — a figure that has risen 21.7 percent in 12 months and 60.3 percent in three years. For reference, domain.com.au reported last month that the median house price in Melbourne was $903,859.

Sorry, I’m just gonna pause here because this is getting a bit depressing for those of us who have started buying coffees from 7-Eleven in hopes of saving up for a mortgage. Although it’s worth noting that while Melbourne’s house prices were increasing for seven quarters straight, that growth has appeared to slow this year. This has caused some real estate experts to speculate the much-discussed housing boom is over.

But let’s be honest: it’s probably not over for the likes of you. In which case you might be interested to hear that a house in Walpeup is being celebrated as “cheapest house in Victoria.” Move to 28 Glen Street and you’d get two bedrooms, a large lounge room, separate dining and kitchen area, study/storage room, gas heating, evaporative cooling for $55-$60k. The only downside is you’re five hours from Melbourne and almost two hours from Adelaide.

Still, it has a toilet.
