Magic Factory Celebrate the Unassuming Beauty of the Suburban Hoon-Mobile

The Auckland nine-piece have written a song about their favourite (stolen) vehicle.

The 1991 Ford Falcon EB V8 is a thing of remarkable beauty. Though associated with suburban hoons and those who smoke while children are in the back seat, the car is also a reliable and sturdy beast that will run until the wheels fall off.

Magic Factory were so devastated when a friend had their Falcon V8 stolen that they wrote a song about it. Taken from their upcoming album Working With Gold, that is available August 18 on 1:12 Records, "Sweet Ride" rolls in the tradition of Creedence, Dr Hook, Allman Brothers and yes, the Rolling Stones. It's a song that sounds made for highway or suburban street cruising.

The last time we checked in with the Auckland band they were a seven-piece. There is now nine of them and would struggle to fit into any car, V8 or otherwise, but they retain a rowdy energy.

Vocalist Rory Treadaway explains that the album took three months to finish and by the end it was a total descent into madness. "We were listening to a lot of the Stones and yelling "More Sticky Fingers" at each other during strange hours of the night. Also the tambourine body count was ridiculous because Scott would break one during every show we played in between. It paid off though, we bruised for this album and it feels good man."

'Working With Gold' is available August 18 on 1:12 Records.
