Nine people believed to be visitors to Perth are in hospital after a suspected mass drug overdose, according to the ABC. All were staying at the same backpackers residence on Colombo St in the Perth suburb of Victoria Park, with emergency services called at 11.40PM last night.

"When ambulance officers and police arrived, they found nine people in an unconscious, semiconscious or a violently ill state," according to the ABC report.

Seven men and two women were taken to hospitals throughout the city, with Western Australia police telling news.com.au that at least four of the nine are in ICU. Their condition is currently unknown.

Detectives are investigating if their conditions are drug-related. ABC is reporting that the nine people are all backpackers, or students from foreign countries.
