Pioneering grime musician Wiley has been awarded an MBE for services to music in the Queen's New Year Honors list. For those unfamiliar with the quirks of the British orders of chivalry, this means that the rapper and producer born Richard Cowie Jnr is now a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. He will be invited to Buckingham Palace in the new year and presented with his medal by a member of the Royal family.
“I’m honoured to be receiving an MBE," Wiley said in a statement. "It feels like the school grade I wanted and didn’t get but now I’m finally there. I would like to thank my mother and father plus all family members and friends for being there for me when I needed them.”
Earlier this year, Noisey named Wiley the greatest UK MC of all time. We're glad that Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, tacitly agrees with us.
