Iranian Artist Makes Beautiful Busts from Webs of Colorful Electrical Wire

Iranian artist Salman Khoshroo is making his way in sculpture and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Salman Khoshroo is best known for the multicolored palette knife portraits he creates using thick globs of oil paint, but this year, the Iranian artist has his eye set on a different genre: sculpture. For the past several months, Khoshroo has been working on a number of mechanical bust sculptures made out of an entanglement of electrical wires. The artist creates a base and frame for each piece out of a combination of 3D-printed parts, woods, and metals. He then fills the figure out with several woven layers of wire.

Khoshroo also plays with different hairstyles to impress gender and personality traits upon his figures. Each sculpture's lush network of wires creates the same muddled coloration seen in his paintings, but brings it out into the 3D realm. For one of these particular busts, Khoshroo even developed a motorized moving frame that can nod and turn its head.
