NYC producer, Nick Hook, celebrates the release of his debut album on A-Trak's Fool's Gold imprint today, a collaboration-focused release that features everyone from iLoveMakonnen and Hudson Mohawke to Prefuse 73, Novelist, and the late, great DJ Rashad. As you might imagine from such a diverse cast of characters, Relationships is decidedly unbound by either BPM or genre, touching on everything from Atlanta rap to grime and footwork. The artist has participated in a robust number of projects so far in his career—doing everything from producing for Young Thug and Azealia Banks to playing in El-P's backing band—so it makes sense that he'd eventually tackle the LP format. Clarifying its production process in a Facebook post, he explained that he favored an IRL over URL approach: "I did 100% of the album in person," he said. "Nothing was emailed. The album is dedicated to Josh Link, Mike Nichols, DJ Rashad, John Kuker, and Dust La Rock."In 2014, A-Trak told THUMP about the history of Fool's Gold in ten songs.Follow Alexander on Twitter.
