The ultimate plaything for any lover of LEDs, 8-bit art, and/or any combination of the two, we'd like to introduce you to the Pixel V2. Designer Al Linke created the Pixel V2 with over 1000 LEDs for the standard model, and over 4000 in the 'Super Pixel Kit.'  This massive volume of bulbs allows you to create tangible, physical snapshots of your favorite designs, and modify your own 16-bit characters to create stylized images of the world around you. Plus, it's smartphone-enabled:

To bring your low-res visions to life, simply download one of Pixel V2's PC or smartphone apps and get designing. You can animate characters, add motion to landscape pics, and breathe life into your very own to-scale model of Mike Tyson from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. Then, via Bluetooth, live-control your digital creations to wow your friends and bring fear to your enemies.

If you're looking to add something a bit more cutting edge to your Pixel V2 experience, you can download and customize your own apps, including the nifty weather service above, a brutal reminder of what we're missing while stuck in this neverending Polar Vortex. You can also incorporate an array of sensors to open your creations up to tactile interaction.

The best part about Pixel V2 is that the possibilities are endless: it's completely open-source, modifiable, and customizable on both hard- and software levels. While not yet in stores, the product already tripled its Kickstarter goal, with thirteen days left to go.
