Swedish DJ Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, has died. His publicist confirmed the news to Billboard. He was 28. A statement says that Bergling was found dead in Muscat, Oman "this Friday afternoon." No cause of death has yet been reported.

Bergling was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Honing his production skills on the forums of Dutch DJ Laidback Luke, Bergling adopted the name Avicii—after the lowest level of Buddhist hell—because his birth name was already taken on MySpace. He gained European fame in 2010 with the song "Seek Bromance" then achieved international success with "Levels" in 2011, catapulting him to the forefront of the early 10s EDM boom. American rapper Flo Rida remixed "Levels" as "Good Feeling" in the same year, which was also a worldwide hit. Bergling's sole studio album, True, was released in 2013 and featured the folk-inspired hits "Wake Me Up" and "Hey Brother." He also collaborated with Coldplay on "A Sky Full of Stars" in 2014.

During this time, Bergling struggled with his physical health. He was hospitalized in 2012 for pancreatitis, canceled an Ultra Festival appearance in 2013, and canceled his entire tour in 2014,removing his gallbladder and appendix as a result of what was reported to be heavy drinking. Bergling retired from touring in 2016, citing his mental and physical health issues.

The full statement regarding Bergling's death is here. Noisey has reached out to his representatives for more details.
