During the late 70s, disco innovator Patrick Cowley helped spawn the hi-NRG dance scene and his work alongside artists like Sylvester was instrumental in shaping the 'the San Francisco sound'.In 1979, Cowley was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles to soundtrack films. The result was the VHS collections Muscle Up and School Daze released in 1979 and 1980. Afternooners, the third collection of Cowley's instrumental songs, was recorded in May 1982, a few months before he died from AIDS.Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records have announced the vinyl reissue of Afternooners on October 19 on what would have been Cowley's 67th birthday.Presented in a gatefold jacket, the album features photos of Cowley and scenes of X-rated scenes from the Fox Studio vaults. On November 9, a celebration of Cowley's life music will be held at CounterPulse in San Francisco.
