James Supercave's "Come Alone" Video Is a Solo Trip Into Psych-Pop Bliss

The LA oddities have returned to spread their strange, psychedelic gospel.

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Noisey Next psych-pop oddities James Supercave, but that isn’t to say the LA trio has been keeping idle. The band’s enjoyed a sweet ascent since releasing its 2016 debut LP Better Strange, selling out tours, playing fests, remixing songs by Bishop Briggs, and otherwise spreading its strange, psychedelic gospel.

Today we’re pleased to announce that the boys are back with some fresh tunes and an even fresher visual to re-whet your appetite for their new EP landing in January. “Come Alone” beckons you into another strange trip, with slinking, patient rhythms buoying uncanny quicksilver vocals. The song's video, directed by Justen Hernandez, pulls us into a mutating world of floating TVs, crystal dimensions, Day-Glo bodies, and melting faces, before literally peeling back its own layers to reveal a more visceral canvas. Singer Joaquin Pastor says that undoing is just the song’s point:

“The song speaks directly to a lover, asking them to drop the bullshit and come as they are,” Pastor tells Noisey. “Being vulnerable is one of the big lessons you unlearn in this life. Everyone is born vulnerable, seeing things with open eyes and an open mind… it's not until you grow up that you learn how to play defense, keep your cards to your chest, and judge people for what they’re worth to you. I think my favorite lyric in the tune talks at this: ‘Flash forward, reborn butt-naked / Baby brain seeing things brand new.’”
