Apple Stopped Selling Historical Civil War Strategy Games Because They Use the Confederate Flag

As of now they're still selling 'Dukes of Hazzard' DVDs and Skynyrd albums featuring the stars and bars.

In response to the recent nationwide controversy about the Confederate flag—which inspired stores like Walmart and Amazon to ban sale of any and all rebel flag merchandise—Apple is removing all games from the App Store that involve the stars and bars. Apple's hearts seem to be in the right place, but TouchArcade points out that this mostly means axing games that skew towards historic wartime strategy, like Ultimate General: Gettysburg and Hunter Cow's Civil War , instead of racist stuff championing the flag.

TouchArcade reports that Apple sent messages to the game developers, explaining the company pulled their game "because it includes images of the Confederate flag used in offensive and mean-spirited ways."

In a statement from the developers of Ultimate General: Gettysburg, the creators said: "True stories are more important to us than money. Therefore we are not going to amend the game's content and Ultimate General: Gettysburg will no longer be available on App Store. We really hope that Apple's decision will achieve the desired results. We can't change history, but we can change the future."

At the time of publishing, Apple is still selling seasons of the Dukes of Hazzard, which prominently features the Confederate flag on the Duke Boys's car, as well as those Lynyrd Skynyrd albums featuring the stars and bars.
