Japan Is Opening a Hotel Run by Robots

At Huis Ten Bosch, a Netherlands-themed amusement park in Nagasaki, Japan, you’ll soon be able to check into a new hotel with the help of a cheery, front desk representative who isn't human. Want help carrying your bags or tidying up your room? At the Henn-na Hotel, robots will make sure those needs taken care of.

The hotel, whose slogan is a “A Commitment to Evolution,” wants to be sure that they are “the most efficient hotel in the world,” according to the company president Hideo Sawada. "In the future, we’d like to have more than 90 percent of hotel services operated by robots,” explains Sawada. The futuristic building will also forego hospitality mainstays like key cards, use facial recognition technologies, and monitor room temperature with radiation panels that automatically detect body heat.

A single room will cost ¥7,000 per night, while a twin will run ¥9,000. Guests can begin reserving rooms here, but for those who can’t cough up that kind of dough this season, check out a preview of the hotel's sleek amenities below:
