Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone first hit bookshelves in the UK 20 years ago today, launching an empire that has spawned blockbuster films, body art, an exhibition, an amusement park, a play, and a fanbase so devoted that religious scholars are studying their spirituality.
Taryn Knight is one such fan. The Colorodo-based freelance illustrator identifies as a Hufflepuff and regularly pumps out her own interpretation of Harry Potter characters to over 260k Instagram followers. "Once I started drawing regularly, my passion for Harry Potter began to creep in," she tells Instagram in an interview. When she started reading the books as a kid, she says, "Something just clicked. I was immediately obsessed."
For Harry's birthday in July, and for that, Knight is planning her second annual #PotterWeekPrompts. Knight's style is even reminiscent of Mary GrandPré's original illustrations for the novels. Check out her work for new facets of characters prominent and obscure from the series in the Instagrams below.
