Man Dies After Being Punched Inside BC Starbucks

A 22-year-old man died last month after being punched in a British Columbia Starbucks, and it appears the incident started over a tossed cigarette.

Michael Page-Vincelli died July 15, several days after being knocked out and hitting his head on a counter inside the Burnaby coffee shop.

According to a witness, the incident started outside of the Starbucks.

"[A] woman tossed a cigarette out the window and he [Page-Vincelli] picked it up and threw it back at her," Michael Zimeras told the CBC. According the witness, the woman then left to a nearby bank and returned with a man. The pair then relocated to Starbucks.

When Zimeras entered the coffee shop to see what happened, he said he saw Page-Vincelli's bleeding body lying on the floor. It is believed Page-Vincelli hit his head on a counter on his way down from being knocked unconscious after being punched.

Page-Vincelli was rushed to a hospital where a few days later he was pronounced dead.

BC's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating the case, although they had said nothing about the incident until it was reported by the CBC.

"The IHIT took conduct of the investigation and continues to diligently pursue leads in an effort to obtain evidence and advance the investigation," RCMP media relations officer Meghan Foster told VICE. "No more information will be released until the evidence can establish search approval."

As of yet, no charges have been laid.
