The Bloodthirsty Characters of Zombie Wrestling

When zombies and wrestlers get together, things do not end well.

When zombies and wrestlers get together, things do not end well. That much was evident this past weekend in Toronto for the fourth annual Zombie Wrestling event presented by Superkick'd, a spectacle that featured an audience of well over 200 zombie sympathizers of all ages.

Zombie Cheech, and fans.

Fans were solidly behind Zombie Wrestling champion Zombie Psycho Mike and his undead minions. The loudest, most popular chants included such predictable outbursts as, "Brains!" and, "Eat his brain!"

These two zombies gave fans what they wanted.

The crowd surrounded the ring inside the Lithuanian House in Toronto's west end, and was packed so tightly that several people were knocked down by wrestlers flying and falling over through the ropes.

Nobody seemed to mind, though. Everyone got up (eventually) and continued to erupt in child-like glee whenever any body parts were thrown into the crowd—notably the part of Zombie Psycho Mike's elbow that he ripped off in homage to The Rock's People's Elbow. And his manhood. Yes, you read that correctly.

In fact, the only non-zombie crowd favorite was Toronto Blue Jay Jose Bautista in his victory over Zombie Babe Ruth.

Of course every wrestler, living or undead, needs a rival. The anti-zombie organization Zero, led by Hamilton, Ontario's "All Ego" Ethan Page and supported by Ashley Sixx, Kris Chambers, Phil Atlas, and Stratos Fear, provided the heel heat on this occasion.

These guys don't like zombies. And, really, can you blame them?

Zero may actually have endangered the proceedings more than the zombies, as Page had a gun to the head of Zombie Cheech before Zombie Psycho Mike ran in to make the save.

Zombie Wrestling was as much a political statement as it was either a high-production-value Halloween spectacle or even a crowd-pleasing wrestling event. It was, after all, the scene of the world's first zombie-human (excuse me: human-who-identifies-as-zombie) wedding. Presided over by Father John the undead Priest, the wedding between RJ City and "The World's Most Huggable Zombie" Bryan Castle was interrupted by "Preservative Party members" Ben and Steven Sharper who lamented the loss of Canadian conservative values. City and Castle were assaulted by Zero shortly after the nuptials eventually took place.

If a priest with an upside-down cross on his forehead didn't cross the line of good taste, the match between Ashley Sixx and "Zombie Jesus" certainly did. But again, very few seemed to mind. All in all, Zombie Wrestling 2015 was clearly intended to cross as many boundaries as possible while still putting on an entertaining, athletic wrestling event. Definitely not for the faint of heart or the easily-offended crowd, Zombie Wrestling will undoubtedly attempt to up the ante for its fifth anniversary in 2016.

The stars of Zombie Wrestling return to action Saturday, November 7 at the Great Hall in Toronto as Superkick'd presents Undisputed featuring Impact Wrestling star EC3.

The refs, wisely, wore hazmat suits.

Winner, and still Zombie Wrestling Champion, Zombie Psycho Mike.
