Disgraceland's 'Scarlett Rain' EP Is for Raving in Forests at Dawn

Two clubby remixes from Curses bring the party indoors—to the afterhours warehouse.

If you like dancing with your eyes closed in the middle of a sunshine-speckled forest, Disgraceland's Scarlett Rain EP is for you. The UK-based producer, né John Stanhope, calls the release—which is named after his daughter Scarlett—"space music for disco veterans." Stanhope says he was inspired to write the EP while driving down a country road in the wake of a huge summer storm. "As I looked over the fields that lay alongside the road something shifted in the light giving the rain a scarlet hue. Crops had been smashed to the ground, branches lay across the road, you could smell the earth in the air and I felt totally inspired. I pulled out my iPhone and recorded the lyrics and main riff right there."

The release found a perfect home on Sol*Selectas, a label geared towards moody, tribal, and psychedelic tracks that label head Sabo calls that "Desert Sunrise deep tech-house sound." "The sound has been evolving in my sets and on the label for some time, and has been greatly influenced by Burning Man, Shambhala, Desert Hearts, Bass Coast, Lightening in a Bottle, Habitas, and 2B1," Sabo says. But don't worry club kids, the EP also includes two dancefloor-oriented remixes from Curses, who explains, "I wanted to push the original into an afterhours warehouse vibe, but still keep the mysterious attitude."

Scarlett Rain is out August 24 on Beatport, and September 7 everywhere else.
