Vapid's New Video Looks And Sounds Like 1983

Vapid's "1983" sounds like a lost track from an 80s Riot Grrrl mixtape.

When I first watched this Vancouver-based punk trio's video for "1983," I thought I'd been sent a classic from that same year. Not only does the song sound like a lost track from an 80s Riot Grrrl mixtape, but the video looks like it too. Shot on VHS this promo shows two ladies (with killer bangs) and a dude performing the song in a dark room, in front of a birthday banner that says "Vapid" and "1983." As the song progresses, the girls start snapping their fingers and doing an aerobic 2-step dance that eventually turns into a full-on synchronized routine against a gold backdrop. It's exactly the type of video that I'd want to be involved in if I were ever in a band.

Whereas their earlier recordings had a strong Bikini Kill vibe, upcoming album, Lake Of Tears (out in 2015), showcases their poppier side, a sound that embraces The Go Gos and Blondie, without completely ditching the grunge. Truly though, Vapid described themselves best on their Bandcamp: they're "loud, bratty, fun, and fast."
