From performing on a Toronto street corner to being co-signed to Drake, Majid Al-Maskati really has started from the bottom. At first glance this may look like any other street band performance, but the frontman is in fact, one-half of OVO duo Majid Jordan, seen here performing at the Toronto Beaches International Jazz Festival back in 2009. From the traditional style of jazz in this video to the contemporary bedroom R&B that he does now, Al-Maskati is clearly a capable and diverse performer. In retrospect, watching this video in 2015 almost looks like a Canadian Idol audition tape, except nobody watches Canadian Idol, and the panel is just Drake.Byron Yan is writer based in Toronto.
