We Helped Make The Next Banger in Ten Minutes With Producer Jordon Manswell

Just give us our Grammy.

We've all been subject to overdue albums from our favourite artists, and though it may be difficult to trust the creative process, we just have to wait it out. During the times I've waited long after promised release dates, I've always wondered what it was like to make a record and, truthfully, it goes beyond any amateur beatmaking app that convinces you that you're the next Zaytoven.

So like any inquiring mind that needs to know, I sought help from a professional. Jordon Manswell is a Toronto-based producer who has a unique approach to making beats: if the flow doesn't come to him within the first ten minutes, he moves on. On any other day I would say that "Patience is a virtue" but here, patience is the most unvirtuous characteristic to have, at least according to Manswell. "Most times I'll start it, if it sounds cool then I'll finish it but if not then I'm probably just going to stash it and move onto the next one. If I'm passing like 10-15 minutes, then that means I'm overthinking it", says Manswell.

After having won Battle of the Beatmakers in 2014 I'm confident that Manswell knows what he's doing. While I thought there would be some Van Gogh-inspired process behind producing, it turns out Manswell needs is the right level of comfort and his home studio is the perfect place to build. "That feeling that people get at a party of being happy and all that stuff, that's what I get in my room. I much rather be feeling that feeling in my room than being out like at a party or something. It makes me kind of an introvert but I love it."
