Belmont Wins on Buzzer-Beater off Full-Court In-Bound Pass

Belmont's Evan Bradds heaved the ball the length of the court to an open Dylan Windler for the winning layup at the buzzer.

Buzzer beaters aren't any less cool this time of year.

You can cram your March Madness with walnuts, ugly!

We got ourselves some Holiday Hysteria! Advent Absurdity! Poinsettia Pandemonium! Tannenbaum Turmoil! Krampus Craziness!

So on and so forth.

Last night, the Belmont Bruins of Nashville, Tennessee knocked off the Lipscomb Bisons, also of Nashville, Tennessee, 64-62 in the "Battle of the Boulevard." It was the 139th meeting between the two schools, which are a mere two miles apart. You might recall Belmont as the team that almost became darlings of the sports world when, as a No. 15 seed in the 2008 NCAA tournament, they nearly picked off No. 2 seeded Duke. Alas, they only nearly beat Duke, missing a desperation shot at the buzzer.

Now then.

With 18 minutes remaining, Belmont was down 18, and the 10-game winning streak over their neighbors-down-the-block looked to be in jeopardy. After a barrage of threes, Belmont took a 55-54 lead at 4:33, but it would stay tight down the wire.

Lipscomb's Rob Marberry (a Bill Walton-esque 11-for-11 with 7 boards) tied it at 62 on a short lefty jump hook in the lane with 2.8 seconds left. Plenty of clock for Belmont's Dylan Windler to haul in a three-quarter-court pass from Evan Bradds and lay in the winning bucket at 0.4 seconds.

Tough loss for Lipscomb, but they get another crack at Belmont in their house next Tuesday. We can only hope for more Christmas Chaos! Mistletoe Mayhem! Santa Psychosis! Frosty Frenzy! Scroogeian—bah, you get the picture.
