Nick Curly’s Remix of “This Girl” Makes For a Smashing Moon Harbour Debut

The German tech house talent talks Trust parties, his label 8Bit, and remixing Sven Tasnadi.

After the success of All In, Sven Tasnadi's latest album on Moon Harbour, the label is now offering up a selection of remixes from it. Those enlisted to add their take on the fine originals are the internationally acclaimed talents of Nick Curly, Simon Baker, Cristian Viviano, Map.Ache, and KaiserDisco.

Up first is 8Bit label boss and Trust party man Nick Curly. The Mannheim producer has long been a tastemaker when it comes to tech house and his effort here is a fine one. His take on "This Girl" flips the track into a deep and loopy number with sunny pads, cosmic melodies, and non-stop beats.

With it due to release next week, THUMP had a chance to catch up with Nick Curly to talk about his Trust parties, what's on slate for 8Bit, and debuting on Moon Harbour with his remix honours for Sven Tasnadi.

THUMP: We're lucky enough to be hosting your remix of Sven Tasnadi's "This Girl." How did this remix for Sven come about?
Nick Curly: Matthias Tanzmann called me and asked if I was up to do it. I said yes immediately. I never did any work on Moon Harbour before. I'm into the label and I like Matthias. Easy decision.

What about your own label 8Bit—anything exciting coming up we should be looking out for?
We do have our decade anniversary of 8Bit Records this year. A tour of 10 gigs with all the guys from the label and a compilation. Not sure who will do the mix for it yet. We will keep you posted! I'm looking forward to playing more gigs with my label partner Gorge, including Hive this Saturday. Deetron also plays. As far as releases go, we are packed. We have a record every four weeks at the moment. We also signed some new acts like Ki Creighton, who just had his amazing Thunder EP on the label. This one is a bomb! Then we have an EP of Paolo Martini and Paul C. I will do another one before the end of 2015 too.

Your Trust parties have been smashing it across the globe as of late. What was the catalyst for you starting your own party series? What would you say is the general ethos behind the gathering?
Me and my manager David came up with the idea in the pool in Ibiza in 2013. Both of us were promoters before we became DJs or agents, and we missed the kick you get from putting on your own parties. It's a special feeling and it's great to get this vibe back in our lives. So far, it is working well. We book only DJs we love—not hype producers—and we try to keep the parties colourful and full of good energy. There is no dark music at a Trust party. Our Barcelona off–week event at ZT Hotel this year was unreal.

Anything else this summer coming up that you're particularly looking forward to?
On the production end, I have another EP coming on Adam Beyer's label Truesoul in September, as well as a remix I did for Mathias Kaden's album out in October, plus my 8Bit EP. There's one more release I'm really excited about, but I cannot confirm it just yet. I'm also playing three big Drumcode shows in Argentina and we have a really good schedule for Trust: Manchester, London, Liverpool, our Paris debut is confirmed, maybe Barcelona in December, and then festivals like Groovefest and Rave On Snow.

Sven Tasnadi's 'All In Remixes' will be released on Moon Harbour Recordings on August 19.
