Tony Blair said to be plotting a return to politics

Tony Blair is considering a return to politics, according to The Sunday Times. The former U.K prime minister is allegedly searching for new offices in Westminster in order to be close to the British parliament.

Blair is said to be seeking to play a part in Brexit negotiations, which are fast becoming increasingly complicated, with demands from the U.K and the EU piling up.

The former PM was a firm supporter of the Remain campaign. Even after the result, Blair argued that a second referendum should not be ruled out. Writing in the New European, he urged: “Surely we are entitled to try to persuade, to make the argument, and not to be whipped into line to support a decision we genuinely believe is a catastrophe for the country we love.”

A source told The Sunday Times: “He’s not impressed with Theresa May… He thinks Jeremy Corbyn is a nutter and the Tories are screwing up Brexit. He thinks there’s a massive hole in British politics that he can fill.”

Since stepping down as Prime Minister in 2007, Blair has worked as an envoy to the Middle East, as well as setting up a consultancy firm which has advised several controversial world leaders – among them the president of Kazakhstan. He has also been criticized for the amount of money he has made since leaving office – reportedly he commands over $300,000 for personal appearances and has a personal fortune of 74 million dollars.

Blair has hinted at a return to the world stage in recent interviews, telling Esquire magazine that any possible political role was “an open question.” It is understood that he will announce a new organisation in January 2017, having wound down most of his commercial business interests. Recently, he was forced to deny he was assuming an advisory role to president-elect Donald Trump after he was spotted having lunch with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
