Angry Charlottesville residents took over a city council meeting

Charlottesville, Virginia residents rallied against city officials Monday night as they took over a city council meeting.

Residents of Charlottesville, Virginia, railed against city officials Monday night at the first city council meeting since August 12, the day of the violent white supremacist rally that turned deadly.

Amid shouts and general chaos, city officials announced that the scheduled meeting was canceled and opened the floor to comments from the audience. The impromptu town hall lasted more than four hours as residents criticized the city’s planning and response to the rally, which included neo-Nazis carrying torches and weapons.

City officials said a third party would review the city’s handling of the rally. The council also voted to start the process of removing a Confederate statue of Stonewall Jackson.
