Dutch producer and DJ Steve Mensink likes to record and release music under a variety of pseudonyms. The most famous of these is Frits Wentink, and as Frits Wentink, Mensink peddles an incredibly wonky kind of almost-avant-house. Each and every new release is an unalloyed joy, and usually the highlight of our (admittedly quite sad) week.

Which is why we nearly wept with joy when the team over at Australian imprint Future Classic got in touch and said, "G'day, THUMP, do you want to premier this really great Frits Wentink remix of Hayden James' new track "Just A Lover"? Ah, you do? Fair dinkum."

This is a Frits Wentink remix so it's no surprise that everything's ever so slightly wonky. Submerged, jazzy chords coil and roil around see-sawing puffs of bass, James' vocal is given the choppy microhouse treatment, and the whole thing's wrapped in the aural equivalent of half-popped bubble wrap that's been left to melt in the mid-afternoon sun.
